All roads lead to makeup.

Hi, my name is Klara. That sounds like I'm at an AA meeting! How else do you introduce yourself? I'm a full time makeup artist, mom, to-do list maker, organiser, champagne-loving, friendly, outgoing, real, honest, fun, loving person.

How did I become a makeup artist? My journey probably started when I was a little girl. I always loved playing with makeup and found it fascinating what makeup could do for someone. When I was old enough to start wearing makeup, I loved it! I got into trouble regularly in high school for wearing what I felt was the bare minimum (foundation, blush, mascara) of makeup to school.

Throughout school I was always the creative kid, pursuing art and music. I've always had a passion for the aesthetic qualities of things and making people look and feel beautiful.

After school I completed a BA Degree in graphic design and started freelancing. I also proceeded to sell houses and work in a clothing store! Talk about jumping around jobs. I just kept feeling like I wasn't finding THE thing I wanted to do.

Fast-forward to 2018, I had the opportunity to study makeup part-time and of course jumped at the chance. Not too long afterwards I got a full-time corporate job which I felt I couldn't say no to at the time and so makeup took a backseat. I did a bit of makeup here and there, but it wasn't my full-time hustle.

Fast-forward to 2020. It's hard lockdown and businesses in all industries are struggling. The company I was working for had to let people go, so I unfortunately (or fortunately! God works in mysterious ways...) was retrenched.

I wasn't sure what to do next. With lockdown and the world in a mess, the future was uncertain. My passion for makeup was still there, but with the events industry in such a state I couldn't see how I would make money.

God had other plans and before I knew it I took a giant leap of faith and decided I was going to do makeup full time. Yes, it was during a pandemic and lockdown. Yes, I chose an industry that was suffering because of it. Yes, it was an already flooded industry. Yes, I was scared. But I did it anyway. With the support of my family and friends - I started my business. Klara Gilbert Makeup Artistry was born. I had found THE thing.

I've been blessed with work flowing in and for working with wonderful people on my journey so far. So I stand by my motto, everything happens for a reason.

I love the fact that I can meet new people from all walks of life through my job, and hope I can meet you too! I'd love to have you in my chair and you feel beautiful too!

Xoxo Klara
